Ayodhya was in the headlines again in October 2023, when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the inauguration of a new, grand Ram temple (Ram Mandir) was just a few months away. Modi presided over the consecration (prana pratishtha) ceremony on January 22, 2024. Extensive arrangements were made for the inauguration, including the dispatch of invitations to thousands of spiritual leaders, saints, and eminent personalities from different fields.

The temple complex, spread over an area of 70 acres (28 hectares), is expected to be built in phases; the first phase was completed in time for the consecration ceremony. The main temple will have a total area of 57,400 square feet (5,330 square meters) and will have three floors and 12 gates. Experts in the hospitality sector expect the new temple to create thousands of jobs in Ayodhya and its neighboring towns. Pop. (2001) 49,417; (2011) 55,890.

How to reach Ayodhya if you are travelling from outside India?

Individuals possessing a valid visa for the country are eligible to travel to Ayodhya by catching a direct flight to the National Capital, Delhi. Subsequently, they can board a connecting flight to Ayodhya Airport. Upon arrival at the local airport, arranging a private taxi is conveniently feasible.

Ram Temple: Important Information

Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirth Kshetra Trust has not announced any arrangement yet for VIP darshan of Ram Lalla and Mangala & Shringar Aarti. Devotees can participate in Shringar, Bhog, and Sandhya Aarti. The deity will rest for two and a half hours during the day (from 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM). During this time, the doors of the sanctum sanctorum will remain closed.

The Trust is determining the rules for participating in the Aarti. Currently, passes are made available offline from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Karyashala Office. It is mandatory to provide ID proof for this.

Registration for online passes can be done at https://online.srjbtkshetra.org/#/aarti, although this facility is not currently active. It is expected to become operational from January 27. After that, you will be able to book online.

Machines have been installed to distribute Prasad to all devotees. These machines are placed on the return path of the pilgrims in the premises. Currently, there is no arrangement for Prasad inside the temple premises with fees.

Devotees can also offer vegetarian and pure sweets and dry fruits with special permission. Due to security reasons, devotees cannot bring coconuts, flower garlands, makeup, or any other items to offer to Lord Ram in the temple.

During temple visits, you can only bring essential items like wallet and glasses inside. Locker facility is available on the pilgrimage route for other items.
